South Africa is celebrating another major achievement on the international pageant stage after Romanda Hombir secured a place in the Top 6 at Miss World 2026 in Vietnam.
Hombir’s impressive run at the 75th-anniversary edition of the Miss World competition saw her emerge as one of the strongest representatives from Africa, carrying the South African flag into the final stages of the competition.
The 27-year-old clinical audiologist from Mpumalanga had already secured her place among the Top 40 after impressing during the African regional Head-to-Head Challenge. She went on to become the African regional champion, strengthening South Africa’s position in the competition.
Her Top 6 qualification was confirmed during the Miss World finale in Vietnam, putting her among the final six contestants alongside representatives from the Dominican Republic, Spain, Malaysia, Vietnam and Eritrea.
Romanda Hombir’s remarkable Miss World journey
Hombir entered the competition with more than a pageant title behind her. A clinical audiologist, motivational speaker and humanitarian, she is the founder of the Caring Purpose Foundation, an initiative focused on healthcare access, literacy, nutrition, skills development and support for vulnerable communities.
Her Beauty With a Purpose advocacy has been an important part of her Miss World campaign, reflecting the pageant’s emphasis on contestants using their platforms to create positive change.
Hombir was crowned Miss World South Africa on 18 July 2026, which coincided with Nelson Mandela Day. The significance of the occasion was particularly fitting as she prepared to represent South Africa at the 75th-anniversary Miss World festival in Vietnam.

Hailing from Mpumalanga, Hombir has become one of the South African contestants to attract significant attention during this year’s competition.
Her background in healthcare and community development has helped distinguish her campaign beyond the traditional pageant spotlight. According to Miss World, her advocacy focuses on improving opportunities for children and vulnerable communities through healthcare and education initiatives.
She has also spoken about her South African heritage, describing herself as proudly South African and explaining that her family has Swati, Zulu and German heritage.

Making the Top 6 places Hombir among the most successful contestants at this year’s Miss World competition.
Her achievement also comes after South Africa had secured attention earlier in the competition through her regional challenge success. Hombir’s confident performance in the Head-to-Head Challenge, where she discussed women’s health among her key concerns, helped her secure an early route into the Top 40.
She then continued her momentum all the way to the final six.

Although the Miss World crown ultimately went to the Dominican Republic’s Joheirry Mola Dominguez, Hombir’s Top 6 achievement remains a significant result for South Africa.
From being crowned in Mpumalanga to winning the African regional challenge and reaching the Top 6 in Vietnam, Romanda Hombir has certainly made her mark at Miss World 2026.
