Clad in mourning black, the artist was seen in a widely shared video walking shoulder-to-shoulder with a massive crowd. His participation highlights the growing pressure from public figures for the government to declare GBV a national disaster.

In a poignant statement accompanying the footage, Ciza addressed the toll violence has taken on South African families. “We have lost too many mothers, sisters, friends, and cousins,” he wrote, describing the situation as a “national crisis.”

Crucially, Ciza directed his message toward his male peers, challenging them to dismantle the culture of abuse. “As a man, I stand with the millions of women affected, and I call on other men to step up, speak out, and hold each other accountable,” he urged.

His actions coincide with a wave of protests across major cities, where social media timelines have turned purple in solidarity, and calls for a safer future for all South Africans have reached a fever pitch.
