After seven years of carving out a career in the United States, Katlego “Tsiki” Ntsabeleng is back on South African soil, but he isn’t rushing the process. Currently on loan at Mamelodi Sundowns from MLS side FC Dallas, the 26-year-old midfielder is embracing a new virtue: patience.
Ntsabeleng’s journey is far from typical. Unlike most local stars who move abroad after a successful PSL stint, Tsiki left South Africa as a youngster, never having made a senior professional appearance at home. Now, he returns as a polished product of the American collegiate and professional systems.
A Full-Circle Journey
Before his American adventure, Ntsabeleng was a standout in South Africa’s most prestigious development pipelines. His return to Sundowns is a “homecoming” in every sense:
- Youth Roots: Stars of Africa, Kaizer Chiefs, and Mamelodi Sundowns academies.
- The US Chapter: Starred for Coastal Carolina and Oregon State before being drafted by FC Dallas.
- The Return: A high-profile loan move to the reigning Betway Premiership champions.

Family First, Football Second
For the Tembisa-born star, the move wasn’t just about tactical adjustments; it was about emotional reconnection. After nearly a decade away, the support system of his family has become his secret weapon in navigating the pressures of Chloorkop.
“I’ve been spending much-needed time with my family, something that I missed throughout the years. It’s also helped me stay patient in the team and get to know the guys,” Ntsabeleng shared.
Fighting for a Spot in the “Yellow Machine”
Joining a squad as dominant as Mamelodi Sundowns means facing arguably the stiffest competition in African club football. Ntsabeleng is under no illusions about the challenge of breaking into a midfield packed with international stars.
“Everyone kind of has to wait for the opportunity and when it comes, grab it with both hands,” he noted. For Tsiki, the goal is simple: work harder than the day before and stay ready for the moment the “wait” ends.
