The long-awaited homecoming of global superstar Doja Cat was supposed to be a night of musical triumph at the SunBet Arena. Instead, it has become the backdrop for a messy, public family feud that left her father, veteran actor Dumisani Dlamini, standing on the sidewalk.
Despite Doja Cat’s first-ever major performance in South Africa being part of the prestigious Global Citizen Move Afrika tour, the headlines today aren’t about the setlist—they’re about the security detail that escorted her father out of the building.
“I Bought My Own Ticket”
In a viral video recorded outside the venue, a visibly frustrated Dlamini claimed that despite paying for his own entry, management barred him from witnessing his daughter’s performance.
“They are saying that I am not allowed to come and see my daughter,” Dlamini stated while being led away by security. “I’ve paid the money for the tickets. No one offered me. I bought the tickets myself.”
The actor further alleged that organizers offered him a refund on the spot, confirming that his presence was strictly “off-limits.”
The Great WhatsApp War?
The plot thickens when you look at the days leading up to the concert. This incident directly contradicts Doja Cat’s own version of events. In a recent TikTok, the “Paint The Town Red” singer claimed she reached out to her father to reconcile, but was met with a cold shoulder.
According to Doja, Dlamini declined the invite because she “doesn’t message him enough or call him on WhatsApp.”
A Missed Connection
For fans who were hoping the “Move Afrika” tour would finally bridge the gap between the Los Angeles star and her South African roots, this latest clash is a major blow. Instead of a tearful backstage reunion, the night ended with legal barriers and social media receipts.
Is this the final nail in the coffin for their relationship, or just another chapter in their complicated history?
