The transfer rumors at Naturena are heating up, but this time it’s about an exit rather than an arrival. Kaizer Chiefs forward Glody Lilepo has reportedly popped up on the radar of clubs in Kazakhstan following a stellar run of form that has made him the focal point of the Amakhosi attack.
The Congolese Spark in a Struggling Attack
Since joining the Glamour Boys last year, the 28-year-old Congolese international has been a rare bright spark in a season where other high-profile forwards have struggled to find the back of the net. While teammates like Khanyisa Mayo, Etiosa Ighodaro, and Ashley Du Preez have “fired blanks” for much of the campaign, Lilepo has been clinical.
Season Stats at a Glance:
- Goals: 7
- Assists: 2
- Impact: Established as a versatile threat capable of playing as a lone striker or running in behind defenses.
Interest from the East
According to reports from Soccer Laduma, the enquiries from Kazakhstan are currently in the informational stage, but the interest is “building.”
“There has been interest from Kazakhstan, and initial enquiries have been made to gather information about him. Nothing formal yet, but that could change,” a source revealed.
Co-coach Cedric Kaze has been vocal about Lilepo’s value, praising his composure and “big club” experience gained at Al Hilal Omdurman and AS Vita Club. For a team currently fighting for a top-three spot, losing their most consistent goalscorer could be a massive gamble.
The Naturena Dilemma: Sell or Shield?
Lilepo is currently on a two-and-a-half-year deal (signed in January 2025) with an option to extend. This puts Kaizer Chiefs in a strong bargaining position. However, with the club desperate for goals to secure CAF football, the management faces a tough choice:
- Cash in on a 28-year-old while his stock is at an all-time high.
- Reject the advances to ensure they have the firepower needed for the 2026/27 season.
