The South African Football Association (SAFA) has sent shockwaves through the local sports landscape by suspending four members of its National Executive Committee (NEC) with immediate effect. The move follows a series of internal reviews aimed at upholding the “integrity of football administration” in the country.
The Timeline of the “Bombshell”
The decision to sideline the officials wasn’t overnight. It began with an Emergency Committee meeting on 13 March 2026, before being officially ratified by the full NEC on 21 March via a round-robin voting process.
The Suspended Officials:
- Gladwyn White
- Monde Montshiwa
- Orapeleng Setlhare
- Emma Hendrick
Strict Terms of Suspension
While the disciplinary proceedings are underway, the four officials face a total “blackout” from the organization. According to SAFA’s formal notification, the members are strictly barred from:
- Accessing any SAFA premises or digital systems.
- Engaging with other members in any official capacity.
- Participating in any SAFA-sanctioned football activities.
Commitment to Accountability
In a statement, SAFA emphasized that these measures are a part of a broader commitment to transparency and accountability. The association has assured the public that the hearings will be conducted “without unnecessary delay,” ensuring that governance policies are followed to the letter.
Business as Usual on the Pitch
Despite the turmoil in the boardroom, SAFA insists that South Africa’s football development remains on track.
“Our football programmes remain unaffected. Several national teams, both junior and senior, are currently in camp as part of preparations for upcoming international competitions.”
With the 2026 FIFA World Cup preparations in full swing and various youth tournaments on the horizon, the association is desperate to ensure that administrative drama does not bleed into the performance of the players on the field.
