Amapiano powerhouse DBN Gogo has shared a fascinating “what if” from her career, revealing that she was nearly a part of the genre-defining hit “Mnike” before it became a worldwide phenomenon. Speaking in a candid interview with SlikourOnLife, the DJ and producer opened up about how the track first landed in her inbox and why she ultimately missed out on the collaboration.

A Missed Connection

According to DBN Gogo, the song’s creator, Tyler ICU, reached out to her during the early stages of the track’s development. At the time, he was looking for her expert input and had invited her to be a featured artist on the project.

“Mnike, I’m gonna tell you now, fun fact, Tyler sent me that song. I can’t even tell you what happened. It was also in the thing of sending a lot of music and he’s like, ‘Gogo, what do you think of this? Let me know, I want you to be part of it.’ Regrets, regrets!” Gogo admitted.

The star explained that the opportunity simply slipped through the cracks during a period when she was being flooded with new music and demos. By the time the dust settled, “Mnike”—featuring Tumelo.za, Nandipha808, Ceeka RSA, and DJ Maphorisa—had already set the global charts ablaze.

No Hard Feelings

Despite the missed opportunity, DBN Gogo was quick to praise Tyler ICU for his vision. She acknowledged that the track remains a benchmark for the genre’s international success, helping to cement Amapiano’s status on the global stage.

“Congratulations to him. That’s the biggest Amapiano song in the world, I think, still to this day,” she added.

While she may not have been on the official credits for “Mnike,” DBN Gogo continues to be a primary exporter of the South African sound, recently making headlines herself for her historic 24-hour DJ set. For Gogo, the story serves as a reminder of the fast-paced nature of the industry—and the massive hits that sometimes hide in a crowded inbox.
