Kaizer Chiefs will put their unbeaten Betway Premiership record on the line when they travel to face Polokwane City on Saturday, 12 September.

The Glamour Boys have made a positive start under new head coach Fernando Da Cruz and will be determined to extend their unbeaten run when they take on a Polokwane side searching for greater consistency.

Chiefs looking to maintain unbeaten start

Kaizer Chiefs have gone unbeaten through their opening five Betway Premiership matches, giving supporters plenty of reason for optimism early in the campaign.

Their latest league outing produced an entertaining 3-2 victory over Siwelele, with young attackers Mfundo Vilakazi and Wandile Duba finding the back of the net.

Lebo Maboe and Mdu Shabalala provided the assists as Chiefs secured another important three points.

Polokwane City, meanwhile, have endured a less convincing start. They have recorded one victory, three draws and one defeat from their opening league fixtures.

That makes Saturday’s encounter an important opportunity for both sides, with Chiefs aiming to protect their unbeaten record while Polokwane will be looking to cause an upset on home soil.

Chiefs supporters will be hoping to see another strong performance from the club’s exciting young attacking players.

Expected Kaizer Chiefs lineup

Da Cruz is expected to stick with his preferred 3-4-3 formation, with Pule Mmodi potentially continuing in the left wing-back role.

The attacking trio of Duba, Vilakazi and Shabalala are also expected to retain their places after making an impact in the victory over Siwelele.

Predicted XI:
Petersen; Kwinika, Miguel, Moloisane; Solomons, Ndlovu, Maboe, Mmodi; Vilakazi, Duba, Shabalala.

The combination of youth and experience will once again be central to Chiefs’ approach as they attempt to maintain their strong start.

Chiefs injury update

The Glamour Boys have, however, been hit by several injury concerns.

New signing Langelihle Phili is expected to spend around eight weeks on the sidelines after suffering an ankle injury during training.

Thabiso Monyane is also unavailable and is expected to miss approximately four weeks.

There is more positive news elsewhere, with defenders Bradley Cross, Paseka Mako, Kabelo Nkgwesa and Reeve Frosler reportedly closing in on returns.

Midfielder Nkosingiphile Ngcobo is fit but has not featured in any of Chiefs’ last three matches, while striker Khanyisa Mayo was seen training ahead of the Siwelele clash but was not included in the matchday action.

Can Chiefs stay unbeaten?

The pressure will be on Chiefs to continue building momentum under Da Cruz.

With five league matches without defeat already secured, another positive result against Polokwane City would further strengthen the feeling that the Glamour Boys are heading in the right direction.

But Polokwane will be determined to make home advantage count.

All eyes will be on Saturday afternoon to see whether Kaizer Chiefs can keep their unbeaten Betway Premiership run alive.
