Kaizer Chiefs youngster Faiz Abrahams has opened up about the advice he received from head coach Fernando Da Cruz before making his debut for Amakhosi.
The 21-year-old winger, who recently joined Chiefs on loan from Stellenbosch FC alongside Langelihle Phili, made his first appearance for the Soweto giants as a substitute against Richards Bay last week.
The match ended in a 2-2 draw, but Abrahams believes he made a positive impact after being introduced.
According to Abrahams, Da Cruz gave him a clear instruction before sending him onto the pitch: create opportunities and help Chiefs get back into the game.
“The coach told me to go out there and create chances for us to get back into the game,” Abrahams said.
The young winger feels he responded well to the challenge, creating several opportunities that could have resulted in goals.
“I think I made a few opportunities that we might have scored from, so I am quite happy with how I did,” he added.
Despite dropping two points against Richards Bay, Abrahams believes Chiefs showed enough quality to have taken all three points.
“We played well enough to win the game but we had a couple of misfortunes which we will definitely work on cutting out going forward.”
For Abrahams, the occasion was also about embracing the opportunity to represent one of South Africa’s biggest clubs.
“It was my first time travelling with Kaizer Chiefs. It felt good to be included and I appreciate the coach’s belief in me. I have worked hard since I arrived and I am grateful for the support I have received and honoured to be playing for this great Club.”
Chiefs have made a solid start to their Betway Premiership campaign, collecting two wins and two draws from their opening four matches. They currently sit third on the table, two points behind leaders Orlando Pirates.
With Abrahams now getting his first taste of competitive action, Chiefs fans will be hoping the talented winger can provide another attacking option as the season progresses.
