Morena Ramoreboli has left Botswana to join Pitso Mosimane’s Bafana Bafana technical team as assistant coach ahead of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.

Bafana Bafana have added an experienced coach to their technical team, with Morena Ramoreboli returning to the national setup as assistant coach to Pitso Mosimane.

The South African Football Association (SAFA) confirmed on Tuesday that Ramoreboli will leave his position as head coach of Botswana’s senior men’s national team, the Zebras, to take up a new role with Bafana Bafana.

The move reunites Ramoreboli with the South African national team, where he previously enjoyed success as part of the technical setup.

Ramoreboli returns to Bafana Bafana

Ramoreboli built a strong reputation during his time in Botswana, initially taking charge on an interim basis before being appointed permanently.

His departure has now been agreed between SAFA and the Botswana Football Association (BFA), with both associations highlighting the strong football relationship between the neighbouring countries.

He will join Mosimane’s backroom staff as Bafana prepare for their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

The appointment also marks a return to an environment Ramoreboli knows well.

In 2021, he was part of the Bafana Bafana setup that won the COSAFA Cup, with South Africa completing the tournament without conceding a goal.

His latest experience in Botswana has added another chapter to his coaching career and given him further exposure to international football.

A new chapter alongside Pitso Mosimane

Ramoreboli’s appointment gives Mosimane an assistant who understands both South African and broader African football.

SAFA president Dr Danny Jordaan welcomed the coach’s return, praising his development and achievements over recent years.

Jordaan said Ramoreboli had earned the opportunity through his consistent growth as a coach and his ability to build competitive teams and produce results in difficult circumstances.

His experience with Botswana, according to SAFA, will bring an additional dimension to the Bafana technical team.

The association also believes Ramoreboli’s qualities will complement Mosimane’s experience as the national team begins its preparations for the road to the 2027 AFCON.

Bafana’s coaching team takes shape

The appointment comes at an important stage for South African football, with Bafana Bafana preparing for another major continental qualification campaign.

With Mosimane at the helm and Ramoreboli joining as his assistant, attention will now turn to how the new-look technical team shapes the squad and prepares for the challenges ahead.

For Ramoreboli, the move represents a significant opportunity to continue his development on the international stage while returning to the national setup where he previously tasted success.

Can Mosimane and Ramoreboli form a winning partnership and lead Bafana Bafana to another successful AFCON campaign?
