In a season of exceptional academic news, Siza Gule, a 2025 matriculant from St John’s College, has emerged as a beacon of excellence. After securing a staggering nine distinctions and a 94% overall average, the Johannesburg scholar has officially been accepted into Harvard University.
Gule’s achievement places him among the global elite, gaining entry to one of the world’s most competitive and prestigious institutions.
A Multidisciplinary Future
Speaking in a recent interview with Kaya 959, Siza shared that he will be moving to Cambridge, Massachusetts, to begin his Ivy League journey in August 2026. What drew him to Harvard was the university’s unique “Liberal Arts” model, which allows students to explore various fields before committing to a single path.
His intended fields of study include:
- Politics: A core interest in governance and societal structures.
- Literature & Theatre: A nod to his creative roots. Gule was a frequent face on the St John’s College stage and intends to keep his passion for the arts alive alongside his political studies.
“I’m very much a creative person… Harvard’s flexibility appealed to me because I’m not entirely sure of just one thing I’m interested in at the moment,” Gule explained.
A National Success Story
The news has sparked a wave of celebration across South African social media, with many hailing Gule as an inspiration for the Class of 2025 and beyond. His success highlights the high caliber of South African private education and the global potential of the country’s top learners.
As he prepares for the transition to the United States, Gule remains grounded, noting that “the sky is not the limit, it’s just a view”—a sentiment echoed by many of his peers in this year’s high-achieving cohort.
