University of Cape Town (UCT) Professor Kelly Chibale has been awarded an honorary fellowship from the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), the organization’s highest honor presented to its members.

This prestigious recognition places Prof Chibale among a distinguished global group of seven renowned scientists honored this year, including three Nobel Prize laureates.

A Peer-Nominated Achievement

The RSC fellowship recognizes distinguished scientists whose research has made an extraordinary impact on scientific advancement. The nomination process is peer-to-peer, making the accolade a significant validation from fellow experts in the field.

“This fellowship means a lot to me, partly because I was nominated by peers and partly because I am part of a stellar group of seven, that includes three Nobel Prize winners. This is truly an honour,” said Prof Chibale.

Global Impact in Drug Discovery

Prof Chibale is the Neville Isdell Chair in African-centric Drug Discovery and Development and the founder/director of UCT’s Holistic Drug Discovery and Development (H3D) Centre.

The 2026 cohort of fellows is noted as one of the most distinguished to date, matching the record for the most fellows awarded in a single year.
