An Orlando Pirates supporter has delivered another memorable social media comment, comparing the Buccaneers’ approach to the police — and the analogy has certainly caught attention.
Football supporters are never short of opinions, but the comment sections on Pirates’ social media pages often produce some of the most entertaining takes.
Following a post featuring Yanela Mbuthuma celebrating his goal against Kruger United, one Pirates fan offered a tongue-in-cheek assessment of the club’s performances.
“Pirates is like the police. It might look like they are not doing their job until they start looking for you.”
The joke plays on the idea that Pirates can appear quiet before suddenly turning up the pressure — something their recent results have certainly supported.
Pirates Have Been Getting the Job Done
Despite the humour surrounding the comment, the Buccaneers have enjoyed an impressive opening to their title defence.
Pirates have won four of their first five matches, with the only blemish being a draw. Their title rivals Mamelodi Sundowns have made a similarly strong start.
The champions have also produced an unusual run of results, winning four consecutive domestic matches by progressively increasing margins:
1-0, 2-0, 3-0 and 4-0.
The sequence began against Sekhukhune United in the MTN8 before Pirates defeated the same opponents in the league and then again in the MTN8 semi-final second leg. They followed that up with a convincing 4-0 victory over Kruger United.
That run has given the Buccaneers plenty of momentum.
Nkota Adds Another Option
Pirates have also strengthened their attacking depth with the return of Mohau Nkota.
The Bafana Bafana winger spent last season in the Saudi Pro League, making 21 appearances and recording two goals and three assists.
His return to the Buccaneers on loan creates another selection headache for the coaching staff, with Nkota competing for a wide attacking role alongside players such as Tshepang Moremi and Oswin Appollis.
With limited starting places available, competition for those positions could become one of the more interesting selection battles at Pirates.
Injuries Open the Door for Fringe Players
Pirates have also been forced to manage injuries in midfield, particularly with Sihle Nduli and Thalente Mbatha sidelined.
That has created opportunities for players including Cemran Dansin, Thapelo Mokobodi, Simphiwe Selepe and Mthetheleli Mthiyane to gain valuable minutes.
Rather than allowing the absences to derail their momentum, Pirates have continued to collect results.
And perhaps that’s where the fan’s police analogy comes in.
