Orlando Pirates face a major transfer decision over Oswin Appollis amid reported overseas interest, while Thabang Matuludi is linked with a move from Polokwane City.

Orlando Pirates could be heading towards a tense final stretch of the transfer window, with Oswin Appollis attracting overseas interest while the Buccaneers reportedly explore a move for Polokwane City defender Thabang Matuludi.

Orlando Pirates still have important business to handle before the transfer window closes, with both potential arrivals and departures dominating the latest transfer talk surrounding the club.

The biggest question, however, concerns Oswin Appollis.

The Bucs winger has reportedly attracted interest from overseas, with an offer said to have been placed for his services. Pirates must now decide whether to resist the interest and keep one of their attacking players for the season or consider a lucrative sale before the window shuts.

Pirates face another Appollis decision

Appollis has established himself as an important member of the Pirates squad since his arrival and remains part of a group expected to contribute across multiple competitions.

The reported overseas interest comes at an awkward time for the Buccaneers, who have already seen key players leave during the current transfer window.

Relebohile Mofokeng and Patrick Maswanganyi have both departed, meaning another significant attacking exit could leave Pirates with less depth as the campaign gathers momentum.

The situation is particularly important with the MTN8 final approaching, while Pirates are also competing on several fronts.

For that reason, allowing Appollis to leave at this stage could force the club to reassess its attacking options.

At the same time, a strong overseas offer could present Pirates with an opportunity to cash in on a player who has attracted attention beyond South Africa.

Matuludi linked with a move to Pirates

While Appollis’ future remains uncertain, Pirates are reportedly looking at strengthening another area of the squad.

Polokwane City right-back Thabang Matuludi has been linked with a move to the Buccaneers, with Pirates believed to be searching for additional quality at right-back.

The 25-year-old has not featured for Polokwane City so far this season, which has naturally fuelled speculation about his future.

However, City head coach Willy Maloto has moved to play down suggestions that Matuludi has fallen out of favour or is no longer part of his plans.

“Why change something if it’s not broken? Thabang will come back, he’s still part of us,” Maloto said.

The coach also insisted that Matuludi continues to train with the team and remains available for selection.

Why Matuludi has been missing

Maloto has preferred 21-year-old Surprise Manthosi at right-back after the youngster impressed during the opening matches of the campaign.

The coach also suggested that Matuludi is still recovering after his involvement with the national team at the recent FIFA World Cup.

That explanation could mean there is less to the transfer speculation than initially suggested, although Pirates’ reported interest will keep the defender’s situation under scrutiny until the window closes.

Pirates have a big decision to make

The Appollis situation could ultimately become the more important of the two transfer stories.

Pirates have already reshaped their squad during the window, and losing another attacking player so close to the start of the season’s decisive phase would create another challenge for the coaching staff.

Keeping Appollis would provide continuity and preserve attacking depth, while selling him could give the club valuable funds to strengthen elsewhere.

With the transfer deadline approaching, the Buccaneers therefore face a potentially crucial call: protect one of their key attacking players or take advantage of serious overseas interest.

For a club chasing silverware on multiple fronts, the timing could be just as important as the transfer fee.

Should Orlando Pirates keep Oswin Appollis for another season, or is this the right time to cash in?
