South African hip-hop veteran K.O is gearing up for summer with a brand-new collaboration, “SHUMI,” featuring rising Ladysmith rapper Blue Pappi.
The Skhanda World founder announced the upcoming single on social media, revealing that the track is scheduled for release this Friday.
“NEW SINGLE OUT THIS FRIDAY! #SHUMI K.O ft. #BLUEPAPPI Summer shuuuuun,” K.O shared, teasing a release built around the energy of the warmer season.
K.O Sets the Tone for Summer
The announcement was accompanied by a preview of the single’s artwork, which features a striking yellow backdrop, a woman’s silhouette and bold green, red and gold lettering spelling out “SHUMI.”
The colourful artwork immediately sets a vibrant tone for the collaboration, suggesting that K.O is looking to deliver a record suited to the summer atmosphere.
The single also arrives during a significant period in K.O’s career. The rapper has been celebrating 20 years in the music industry, using the milestone to reflect on his longevity while continuing to release new music and collaborate with artists from different generations.
Earlier this year, K.O marked the journey with “20 Summers” before appearing alongside Danya Devs and Scotts Maphuma on “Hotela.”
A Meeting of Two Hip-Hop Generations
“SHUMI” brings K.O together with one of the emerging voices making an impression on South Africa’s new-school hip-hop scene.
Blue Pappi, a member of the Qwellers collective, has steadily built his profile through a blend of introspective songwriting, melodic vocals and a fluid use of both Zulu and English.
The Ladysmith artist has expanded his catalogue with projects including the 2025 album Emadlelweni Aluhlaza, the Road to Ehlane EP and the more recent EHLANE mixtape.
His growing list of collaborations includes work with artists such as Sjava, Blxckie, Ma-E and Young Stunna, helping establish him as an increasingly visible figure in contemporary South African music.
What to Expect From “SHUMI”
The collaboration presents an intriguing combination of K.O’s seasoned delivery and Blue Pappi’s melodic, emotionally driven style.
Although details surrounding the production and lyrical direction of “SHUMI” have not yet been fully revealed, K.O’s summer-themed announcement points towards a record designed to bring a lively, seasonal energy.
For K.O, the single is another example of his ability to remain connected to the evolving South African hip-hop landscape while continuing to introduce fresh voices to his audience.
With “SHUMI” arriving this Friday, fans now have another K.O collaboration to look forward to as the summer season approaches.
