Rulani Mokwena continues to make his mark in Egyptian football after guiding Pyramids FC to a convincing 4-1 victory over Al Gaish on Tuesday night.
The latest result extended the South African coach’s extraordinary winning run and saw him make club history in the process.
Mokwena has now won 11 consecutive competitive matches since taking charge of Pyramids, becoming the first coach in the club’s history to win his first 11 games.
Mokwena Goes Where Previous Coaches Couldn’t
Pyramids have enjoyed strong starts under several coaches in the past, but Mokwena’s record stands out because his opening run has consisted entirely of victories.
Former Egypt national team coach Hossam Hassan previously guided Pyramids through an unbeaten opening stretch of 11 matches during the 2018/19 season. His record during that period included six wins and five draws.
Argentine coach Ramon Diaz also managed an unbeaten opening 11-game run in 2019, recording seven victories and four draws.
Mokwena has now surpassed those marks by winning every one of his first 11 competitive fixtures.
Pyramids Leading the Egyptian Premier League
The South African’s impressive run has also helped Pyramids establish themselves at the top end of the Egyptian Premier League.
Following the 4-1 win over Al Gaish, Pyramids have collected 21 points from their opening seven league matches.
Egyptian heavyweights Al Ahly and Zamalek are both on 16 points, leaving Pyramids with an early advantage at the summit.
For Mokwena, the start represents an encouraging response to the challenge of managing in one of Africa’s most competitive football environments.
From Sundowns to Egypt
Mokwena arrived at Pyramids after previously working with Mamelodi Sundowns and Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic.
His move to Egypt has provided another opportunity to establish himself on the continental stage, and his early results suggest he has quickly adapted to his new surroundings.
The 11-match winning streak is already part of Pyramids’ history. The next challenge will be maintaining that momentum as the season progresses.
How Long Can Mokwena Keep the Streak Alive?
With 11 straight victories already on the board, attention will now turn to whether Mokwena can extend the run and push Pyramids even further ahead in the Egyptian Premier League.
One thing is already certain: Rulani Mokwena has made a historic start in Egypt.
How far can he take Pyramids this season?
