The European pre-season tour for Orlando Pirates is stepping up a gear. Fresh off a thrilling 2-1 comeback victory over Spanish Segunda Division side Cádiz CF and an initial 1-1 draw against Córdoba, the Sea Robbers are gearing up to face Saudi Arabian powerhouse Al-Ittihad Club in Marbella.
The fixture represents another stern litmus test for new head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, who continues to integrate seven new signings and three promoted DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) youngsters ahead of a grueling 2026/27 campaign where Pirates will compete across five separate competitions.
Meet the Opponents: Saudi Giants Al-Ittihad
Based in Jeddah, Al-Ittihad stands as one of the most decorated clubs in Asian football, boasting an impressive cabinet of 46 major domestic and international trophies, including eight Saudi Pro League titles.
- Star Power: While global icons Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kanté have since moved on from the Jeddah-based club, Al-Ittihad still features elite international talent like former Aston Villa winger Moussa Diaby.
- Final Stretch in Spain: This high-profile clash is one of three remaining friendly fixtures for the Buccaneers in Spain before they return home to kick off their domestic campaign against Durban City in the MTN8 quarter-finals this August.
