We rate the four Springbok debutants—Jaco Williams, Carlü Sadie, Vusi Moyo, and Ruben van Heerden—after the 43-0 shutout against Wales at Kings Park.

The Springboks’ thumping 43-0 victory over Wales at Hollywoodbets Kings Park wasn’t just a record-breaking win—it was a definitive showcase of South African rugby’s terrifying squad depth. Head coach Rassie Erasmus handed four players their official Test bows in Durban, and each one stepped up to prove they belong in the green and gold.

Here is how the four newest Springboks measured up on an unforgettable debut night.

Carlü Sadie (Prop) | Rating: 8/10

Sadie shed a tear during the national anthem before proceeding to make life an absolute nightmare for the Welsh front row. Targeting loosehead Rhys Carre relentlessly, Sadie milked a penalty on his very first scrum at Test level and drove the Welsh pack into reverse at every opportunity. While he was quieter in the loose phases, he wasn’t selected to run the wings—he was picked to destroy scrums, and he delivered on that mandate emphatically. South Africa’s tighthead depth remains unmatched.

Jaco Williams (Winger) | Rating: 8/10

With a meteoric rise drawing comparisons to Makazole Mapimpi, the 20-year-old winger enjoyed a dream debut. In the dying seconds of the first half, Williams won a crucial aerial duel to tap back a cross-field kick directly into Jesse Kriel’s path for a try. Moments into the second half, he scuttled over for his own debut five-pointer before later turning provider to set up Herschel Jantjies. A stellar debut where nearly every touch turned to gold.

Vusi Moyo (Flyhalf) | Rating: 7/10

Stepping into the high-pressure 10 jersey at just 20 years old, Moyo never looked out of place. After shaking off some early nerves, he grew into the contest beautifully, slotting three conversions and setting up a try with a pinpoint cross-field kick. While tight game conditions limited his running game, he marshaled his channel perfectly on defense for 47 minutes. The complete picture of Moyo’s attacking brilliance is still to come, but this was an incredibly mature baseline.

Ruben van Heerden (Lock) | Rating: 7/10

While his lock partner caught the eye in open play, Van Heerden quietly put on a defensive masterclass built on pure work rate. He led the entire Springbok team with a massive 11 tackles, prioritizing defensive detail over headline-grabbing carries. He ran the lineout with total composure and looked completely at home in the physical arena of Test match rugby. A steady, calculated performance from a man who has patienty bided his time.
