Kaizer Chiefs defender Thabo Moloisane is determined to return to Bafana Bafana after a difficult spell. Can consistent performances earn him a recall?

Kaizer Chiefs defender Thabo Moloisane is determined to earn another call-up to Bafana Bafana, insisting that he has what it takes to return to the national team despite the fierce competition for places.

The 27-year-old is hoping his move to Naturena will help him rediscover his best form and revive his international ambitions. Having previously been part of Hugo Broos’ national team setup during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, Moloisane knows what it takes to compete at the highest level.

However, he has not represented South Africa in more than a year. A difficult spell at Stellenbosch FC affected his progress, and he missed out on selection for both the Africa Cup of Nations and the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to the supplied report.

Now wearing the famous black and gold of Amakhosi, the defender believes he can get his career back on track.

Moloisane knows the challenge of returning to Bafana

Moloisane is under no illusion about the task ahead. Competition for defensive positions in the national team remains intense, meaning consistent performances at club level will be essential if he hopes to attract the selectors’ attention.

Speaking about his ambitions, the Chiefs defender acknowledged the number of players competing for a place in the Bafana squad. He also pointed to the visibility that comes with representing a major club such as Kaizer Chiefs.

“We should give credit to the guys, you know. I was speaking to Mdu (Shabalala) last week, saying the line is long to get back into Bafana, but at the same time, I’m at a big institution watched by everyone. For me, it’s just to continue working hard. The journey is still long,” he told the media.

His comments underline his understanding that a return to international football will have to be earned through hard work and strong performances.

‘Mark my words’: Chiefs defender backs himself

Despite the obstacles, Moloisane remains confident that he can force his way back into the national team picture.

The defender believes his previous experience with Bafana gives him a useful understanding of what is required at international level. He also feels that he is gradually returning to his best after a challenging previous season.

“I’m a South African player, I’ve been in the Bafana setup. I know what it takes and I had a tricky past season. But I’m getting back to my best and mark my words, I’ll be back in the Bafana squad,” he added.

That statement sends a clear message about his determination. Moloisane is not simply hoping for another opportunity; he wants to earn it through his performances for Chiefs.

Can Kaizer Chiefs help revive his international career?

Moloisane joined Kaizer Chiefs on a free transfer in July after leaving Stellenbosch FC. The move offers him a fresh start at one of South Africa’s most closely followed football clubs.

Regular, high-quality displays for Amakhosi could strengthen his case for a national team recall. However, the defender will need to maintain consistency and prove himself against the competition for places in Broos’ squad.

For Chiefs, having another player pushing for international recognition could also be a positive sign as the club looks to improve its performances and develop its influence within the national team setup.

Moloisane’s immediate priority is to establish himself at Naturena. If he can deliver the performances he believes he is capable of, a Bafana Bafana return may become a realistic target.

Will Thabo Moloisane fulfil his promise and return to Bafana Bafana? Or is the competition for defensive places simply too strong? Share your thoughts.
