The Blitzboks are heading into the iconic Hong Kong Sevens this weekend with one goal in mind: maintaining the world-class standards that saw them crowned Sevens World Champions last year. Under the guidance of coach Philip Snyman, the South African side is looking to build on a dominant season that recently saw them clinch the overall Sevens Series title.

The South Africans have been a model of consistency, reaching the semi-finals in five out of six tournaments and walking away with four gold medals. As they land in Hong Kong, Snyman insists the team has “reset” and is prepared for the unique atmosphere of the world’s most famous sevens event.

The Strategy: Possession and Discipline

Coach Snyman highlighted that success this weekend hinges on two major factors: keeping seven men on the field and cherishing the ball.

“Discipline will be key again,” Snyman noted. “We don’t want to lose any players due to cards and when we have the ball in hand, we need to keep that possession.”

The Pools

The Blitzboks headline Pool A, where they will face a physical challenge from Argentina and European flair from Spain and Uruguay.

  • Pool A: South Africa, Argentina, Spain, Uruguay
  • Pool B: Fiji, France, Great Britain, Germany
  • Pool C: New Zealand, Australia, Kenya, USA
