When news broke that controversial businessman Brown Mogotsi allegedly survived an assassination attempt, the reaction on social media was a mix of speculation and sarcasm. Leading the charge in the online drama was DJ Warras (Warrick Stock), who took on the dual role of detective and comedian on X.

Mogotsi, known for his provocative online presence, claimed he was shot at in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni, on Monday night, November 3, 2025. His red Chevrolet sedan was found riddled with approximately 11 bullet holes and shattered windows, yet he emerged miraculously unharmed.

DJ Warras’s Hilarious Skepticism

Warras was openly doubtful of the incident, quickly drawing parallels to a past controversy. In a post that rapidly went viral, he wrote:

“Hahahaha! Okay, cool story bro – this one is looking like the ‘bomb’ that went off by Nhlanhla Lux’s house lol! Same hitmen.”

This comment referenced the 2023 incident where community activist Nhlanhla “Lux” Dlamini’s home was petrol-bombed. Warras’s post elicited both laughter from users and irritation from those who felt he was downplaying a serious event.

Social media users quickly chimed in:

  • One user joked, “Lux catching strays.”
  • Another quipped, “Nhlanhla Lux walked so Brown Mogotsi could run.”

SAPS Warns Against Staging a Crime

While Mogotsi’s supporters expressed relief that he was safe, a strong current of skepticism from the public suggested the attack might have been staged.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has confirmed that an investigation is underway. National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe issued a stern warning against the possibility of the crime being faked:

“If we do find out that this was staged, we will take action. We have not made that determination yet. We are still investigating and hoping this was genuine.”

Mathe added that staging a crime is equivalent to defeating the ends of justice and represents a major “diversion of resources.”

Given the public skepticism and the SAPS warning, what do you think the outcome of the police investigation into Brown Mogotsi’s alleged shooting will be?
