The entertainment world is filled with short-lived alliances, but the brotherhood between Oscar “Oskido” Mdlongwa and Nkosinathi “Black Coffee” Maphumulo stands as a rare, beautiful masterclass in loyalty, mentorship, and divine timing.
This week, legendary Kalawa Jazmee pioneer Oskido took to social media to share a deeply personal and humbling experience that has captured the hearts of fans across Africa. From the world-famous beaches of Ibiza to the exclusive, sun-drenched coastlines of Mykonos, Greece, the veteran producer’s journey came beautifully full circle—complete with his very first private jet ride.
Destination: Ibiza — A Reunion Under the Mediterranean Sun
It started in Ibiza, Spain. For nearly a decade, Black Coffee has dominated the global electronic music scene, securing a historic Saturday residency at Hï Ibiza (voted the world’s number-one club). It is the ultimate playground of the global elite, but amid the high-octane luxury and massive crowds, Black Coffee didn’t forget the man who paved the way.
Oskido revealed that his former protégé took care of him in Spain with “nothing but pure, unconditional love.”
But the trip was about to take an even more surreal turn.
“Bhuda, Let’s Go to Greece”
While relaxing in Spain, Black Coffee turned to Oskido and said:
“Bhuda, let’s go to Greece. Mykonos is next.”
The next thing Oskido knew, he was boarding a private luxury jet—a milestone he candidly admitted was a first in his legendary life.
The flight took them directly to the Greek island of Mykonos, where Black Coffee continues to headline his exclusive summer residency at SantAnna. For Oskido, watching the boy he championed in South Africa’s townships command the global stage from the luxury of a private jet cabin was an overwhelming, emotional realization of a 21-year journey.
The History: Spotting the Spark 21 Years Ago
To truly appreciate this moment, you have to look back more than two decades.
In the early 2000s, South African dance music was dominated by heavy, fast-paced Kwaito and tribal house rhythms. Then came a young, soft-spoken DJ from Durban who proposed a different kind of sound: a deeper, more atmospheric, and jazz-inflected brand of House music.
While many industry executives were hesitant to take a gamble on this unconventional style, Oskido—already an established icon through his work with Kalawa Jazmee—recognized the genius. He gave Black Coffee the platform, the mentorship, and the initial industry push when “few were paying attention.”
Today, that same young man is a Grammy Award winner, an international fashion icon, and a global ambassador for African electronic music.
Oskido’s Golden Rule: “Don’t Keep Score”
Beyond the luxury jets, pristine beaches, and VIP club decks, Oskido shared a profound piece of spiritual wisdom that everyone—regardless of their career path—can learn from:
“Life has a beautiful, humbling way of coming completely full circle. My message to everyone out there is simple: Give from the heart. Don’t keep score. When you sow seeds of genuine support without expecting anything in return, God has a way of multiplying those blessings in ways your mind could never even imagine.”
In an industry often driven by transactional relationships, Oskido’s reflection is a powerful reminder that real success is built on selfless mentorship, genuine celebration of others’ success, and unwavering faith.
I Believe.
