Gavin Hunt Bolsters Stellenbosch FC with Major Triple Signing

Following a ninth-place finish in the Betway Premiership last season that saw them narrowly miss out on MTN8 qualification, Stellenbosch FC is leaving nothing to chance for the 2026/27 campaign. Head coach Gavin Hunt has actively opened the club’s checkbook, securing three high-profile signings to strengthen the squad for both domestic battles and upcoming CAF continental assignments.

The Cape Winelands outfit has finalized key acquisitions across their midfield, defense, and goalkeeping departments.

The New Arrivals in the Winelands

1. George Matlou (Midfielder — Free Agent)

The 27-year-old former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder arrives on a long-term contract. Bringing plenty of top-tier pedigree, Matlou made 46 appearances for Amakhosi and played an active role in their 2025 Nedbank Cup-winning campaign.

2. Terrence Mashego (Left-Back — Season loan from Mamelodi Sundowns)

The highly rated Bafana Bafana left-back joins on a season-long loan. Mashego brings championship-winning experience, having recently helped Durban City lift the 2026 Nedbank Cup. With 14 national team caps, his explosive runs on the flank will offer crucial depth.

3. Nathan Garrow (Goalkeeper — Auckland City)

To fill the void left by the departure of Oscarine Masuluke and the retirement of veteran Lee Langeveldt, Stellies has brought home 21-year-old Cape Town-born goalkeeper Nathan Garrow on a permanent transfer from New Zealand side Auckland City.
