SAward-winning South African producer and DJ, Chymamusique, has opened up about the significant financial strain of his recovery following a serious car accident that tragically claimed the life of his friend.

Financial Toll of Recovery
The musician revealed that he is currently facing monthly medical expenses totaling approximately R15,000. This figure covers prescriptions, copayments, check-ups, and medical aid costs, stemming from multiple necessary procedures.
On Tuesday, November 11, 2025, Chymamusique shared on Instagram that he had recently been discharged after undergoing emergency brain surgery. He announced the indefinite cancellation of all upcoming performances to focus entirely on his healing process.
“Cancelling all work. What a summer. What’s the best way to pass time? I don’t want to be idle, because an idle mind is the devil’s playground,” he wrote.

Launching the BackaBuddy Campaign
To generate income while his main businesses are paused, the Don’t Wait Till I’m Gone hitmaker has temporarily turned to selling branded t-shirts and hoodies.
Despite clarifying that his financial situation is “not that bad,” Chymamusique shared that a wave of requests from fans prompted him to start a donation campaign to help mitigate the high medical costs.
He later officially announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he had launched a R200,000 BackaBuddy fundraiser. He revealed he has already undergone six surgeries and still faces two more.
“By popular demand, I was asked to open this BackABuddy campaign to reduce a bit of load when it comes to medical bills, do it voluntarily,” he tweeted.
Since the announcement, fans and fellow artists have rallied in support, sharing the campaign link and offering heartfelt messages of encouragement as Chymamusique continues his road to recovery.
