South African rapper Nadia Nakai has found herself at the centre of a heated online debate following a segment on her reality show, Bragga, where she decided to prank-call fellow celebrities. Specifically, a prank call made to celebrated artist Zakes Bantwini has drawn widespread criticism, leaving many viewers questioning her judgement.

The Controversial Clip
During a recent episode of the show, Nadia Nakai—known as “Bragga”—placed lighthearted prank calls to several industry peers, including Bantwini and influencer Mihlali Ndamase.
The moment intended for comic relief quickly turned into a viral controversy after the clip was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by entertainment commentator Musa Khawula.

Backlash: Accusations of Disrespect
The core of the backlash revolves around the fact that Zakes Bantwini is a married man, wedded to singer Nandi Madida. Many users online accused Nakai of overstepping boundaries and showing a lack of respect for Bantwini’s marriage.
The outrage was palpable, with critical comments suggesting an inappropriate level of comfort between Nakai and Bantwini:
- Marital Intrusion: Several users expressed suspicion over how quickly Bantwini answered the call, warning his wife, Nandi Madida, to “be careful.”
- Cultural Sensitivity: Some comments took a cultural turn, suggesting that Nadia Nakai would not have dared to prank a husband from a different cultural background, highlighting perceived disrespect.
- Aggressive Warnings: The most extreme comments included explicit warnings for Nakai and others to “stay away from Zakes,” accusing them of trying to break up Nandi and Zakes’ home.
This incident has amplified the ongoing discussion surrounding boundaries between celebrities, especially when one party is in a high-profile marriage. Critics felt the call was ill-timed and “distasteful,” referencing a previous public post where the Bantwinis affirmed their commitment to their marriage.

The Defence
Despite the overwhelming criticism, a few fans came to Nadia Nakai’s defense, arguing that the moment was completely harmless and that the reaction had been unnecessarily exaggerated by the public and social media users determined to find drama.
Regardless of intent, the segment has successfully generated significant attention for Bragga, though perhaps not the kind of publicity Nadia Nakai’s team had hoped for.
