The Eastern Cape community is in deep mourning following the tragic death of entertainment promoter Nkokheli “Volo Da Saint” Twabu, who was killed in a car accident near King Shaka International Airport in Durban on Sunday morning.
The news has sent shockwaves through the province, with his family releasing a statement on Monday asking for privacy and prayers as they navigate this devastating loss.

A Legacy of Upliftment and Vision
Volo Da Saint is remembered as a pioneering force who profoundly impacted the creative and economic landscape of the Eastern Cape, particularly in the rural area of Bizana.
- Economic Driver: Tributes highlight his dedication to putting Bizana “on the national map.” His large-scale events created over 100 temporary jobs annually and significantly boosted local tourism and the economy.
- High-Profile Access: He was a risk-taker who successfully brought major South African artists—including AKA, Cassper Nyovest, Kabza De Small, and DJ Maphorisa—to the community, something his peers noted was an uncommon and determined feat for a rural area.
- Community Pillar: Beyond entertainment, Metro FM award-winner Betusile Mcinga praised Volo as a figure of philanthropy and community upliftment, calling him a “pillar of pride.”

Enduring Event Legacy
His signature event, the annual OR Tambo Homage Event, had become one of the region’s most anticipated December celebrations. The upcoming edition, scheduled for December 23, was set to feature top artists like Dlala Thukzin, Kelvin Momo, Dumi Mkokstad, Mafikizolo, and Naledi Aphiwe. This event now stands as a powerful testament to his vision and enduring contribution.
Close friend DJ Mist SA emphasized the lasting void, stating, “Your name will forever hold a prominent place in the historical records of both Bizana and the Eastern Cape.”
