Musa Khawula murder trial delay

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has broken its silence regarding the stalled murder trial of controversial celebrity blogger Musa Khawula, clarifying the reasons behind the delay and the failure to execute a warrant for his arrest in the Western Cape.

While the Vredenburg Magistrates Court authorized a warrant for Khawula’s arrest in late 2025 following his failure to appear in court, the warrant remains unexecuted.

Legal Troubles in Gauteng Complicate Logistics

According to NPA spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila, the primary reason for the delay is Khawula’s ongoing criminal matters in Gauteng.

Khawula was arrested earlier in 2025 on a separate attempted murder charge linked to an incident at the Mponeng Mine in February 2021. Although he was subsequently released, he remains actively involved in multiple criminal proceedings in Gauteng.

NPA Strategy: Finalizing Gauteng Case First

Speaking to Daily Sun on February 18, 2026, Ntabazalila confirmed that the warrant in the Western Cape is still active but executing it now presents significant logistical hurdles.

“There’s no definite date. His Gauteng matter complicates the situation as the accused will have to be transported between Vredenburg and Gauteng the whole time.” — Eric Ntabazalila, NPA Spokesperson.

The NPA has determined that it is more practical to conclude the Gauteng proceedings before bringing Khawula to Vredenburg to answer for the murder charge.

The senior public prosecutor in Vredenburg has suggested that the Gauteng case be finalized first to avoid constant transportation between provinces and ensure a more streamlined judicial process.
