The “Glamour Boys” are bringing back a familiar face to help steady the ship. Dillon Sheppard, who previously served as co-coach alongside Arthur Zwane, has officially returned to the Kaizer Chiefs first-team technical setup.
His return comes at a critical juncture for the club as they look to salvage their season and secure a spot in continental football following a turbulent run of results under co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze.
The Role: Tactical Refinement and “Finishing”
Sheppard’s return isn’t about replacing the current leadership, but rather bolstering the technical bench with his extensive PSL experience. Co-coach Cedric Kaze confirmed that Sheppard has been brought in to sharpen the team’s execution on the pitch.
“We have brought an extra member in the technical staff with the experience,” Kaze told the media. “At training, we do a lot of exercises to finish a lot of situations that could arise in the game.”

The Context: A Season of Highs and Lows
The 2025/26 campaign has been a rollercoaster for the Amakhosi faithful. After a string of disappointing exits and a dip in league form, the pressure at Naturena reached a breaking point:
- Cup Heartbreak: Eliminated from the Nedbank Cup Round of 32 by Stellenbosch FC and a group-stage exit in the CAF Confederation Cup.
- Derby Defeat: A stinging 3-0 loss to arch-rivals Orlando Pirates marked the low point of a three-match losing streak.
- Signs of Life: The club finally snapped their skid with a gritty 1-0 win over Durban City last Sunday at FNB Stadium.
The Mission: The Race for Third
While the league title is mathematically out of reach, the goal has shifted to securing a Top 3 finish, which would guarantee a return to the CAF Confederation Cup next season.
The Silver Lining: Chiefs hold two games in hand over their immediate rivals. If Sheppard can help the technical team convert those games into six points, the Glamour Boys will leapfrog into third place, firmly back in the driver’s seat for continental qualification.
