Former Kaizer Chiefs left-back Edmilson Dove has broken his silence on his departure from the club, describing his exit as a “natural parting of ways” after three seasons at the heart of the Amakhosi defense.
The 31-year-old Mozambican international, who left Naturena in June 2025 following a successful Nedbank Cup campaign, shared the details of his final days with the Glamour Boys in a candid interview with Soccer Beat.
A Long-Distance Discovery
In a testament to the hectic life of a professional footballer, Dove revealed that he actually found out his contract would not be renewed while representing Mozambique.
- The Timing: “My contract was expiring… and I was with the national team. Right after the season ended, I went straight into camp because we had a friendly against South Africa,” Dove explained.
- The Professionalism: He learned the news through Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr., a figure Dove says he holds in extremely high regard. Despite the news, he maintains that the timing was right for both parties to move forward.

Unlike many players who slip away during the off-season, Dove felt it was essential to return to Johannesburg to close the chapter personally.
“I had the opportunity to go back after I found out my contract was not going to be renewed, just to say my goodbyes. I spent three beautiful years at the club and, despite the highs and lows, we built a strong bond.”
For Dove, those three years weren’t just about the football; they were about the relationships built within the village at Naturena. He left the club on a high note, having helped secure the Nedbank Cup trophy before his departure.
