Despite securing their best league finish in six years and a return to continental football, Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly preparing for a massive technical and squad restructuring. Under the guidance of co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze, the Glamour Boys finished third in the Betway Premiership, successfully booking a spot in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup and the MTN8.

However, the pursuit of domestic dominance means staying still is not an option for the Amakhosi management.

The Search for a New Commander-in-Chief

Rumors are swirling that the club is looking for a heavyweight to lead the 2026/27 campaign. Two names have consistently dominated the conversation:

  • Pitso Mosimane: “Jingles” remains the dream appointment for many. His unmatched continental pedigree is seen as the perfect fit for a club returning to CAF competition, though his high-profile status comes with significant financial considerations.
  • Manqoba Mngqithi: Currently lauded for his tactical work and previous success at Mamelodi Sundowns, Mngqithi is viewed as a primary candidate capable of implementing a long-term winning philosophy at Naturena.

The “Clean Slate” Strategy: 11 Players on the Brink?

Stability on the bench might be the goal, but the playing squad is reportedly facing a ruthless clearing-out process. Up to 11 players are being linked with departures as the club looks to free up space and budget for fresh talent.

Potential Departures Include:

  • Defensive/Midfield Units: Zitha Kwinika, Happy Mashiane, Samkelo Zwane, Paseka Mako, and George Matlou.
  • Goalkeeping & Attack: Bruce Bvuma, Fiacre Ntwari, Gaston Sirino, Khanyisa Mayo, Etiosa Ighodaro, and Ashley du Preez.

While some of these names are surprising—particularly those who featured regularly this season—the message is clear: Kaizer Chiefs are determined to build a squad that doesn’t just participate but wins.
