SOWETO, SOUTH AFRICA — Kaizer Chiefs look poised to dive back into a historically rich scouting ground. High-level discussions are currently underway between Amakhosi and the reigning Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League champions, Scottland FC, regarding potential player transfers ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
The intriguing link was brought to light by Scottland FC’s ambitious billionaire president, Pedzai “Scott” Sakupwanya, who confirmed that negotiations are active as both teams look to reconstruct their squads for the upcoming season.
The Zimbabwe Connection Sparked Anew
Amakhosi’s footprint in Zimbabwean football is legendary, having previously unearthed icons like Knowledge Musona and Khama Billiat—both of whom, in a twist of fate, currently line up for Scottland FC.
Speaking to local media about his club’s aggressive recruitment strategy, Sakupwanya dropped the bombshell that the Soweto giants are very much at the negotiation table.
“As we speak, I am engaging Kaizer Chiefs about possible player movements between the two clubs,” Sakupwanya revealed. “We are also speaking to players who are based in Europe. Our goal is to bring the best talent to Scottland FC and build a team that can compete at the highest level.”
Speculation of a deeper alliance intensified after Kaizer Chiefs Football Manager, Bobby Motaung, was spotted in Harare on multiple occasions. Motaung recently toured Scottland FC’s facilities in Ruwa and attended their 2-0 victory over Ngezi Platinum, where the newly-crowned Zimbabwean champions stretched their lead at the top of the standings to seven points.
Pre-Season Showdown: The 2026 Toyota Cup
While negotiations continue behind closed doors, fans won’t have to wait long to see the two clubs share a pitch. Scottland FC has been officially announced as Kaizer Chiefs’ opponents for the third edition of the Toyota Cup, scheduled for July 26, 2026, at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg.
The glamorous pre-season fixture will offer club executives from both Naturena and Harare the perfect backdrop to finalize business, while letting supporters catch a glimpse of what could be a burgeoning cross-border partnership.
