
Stellenbosch FC have officially completed the permanent acquisition of 20-year-old defender Gopolang Taunyana from Kaizer Chiefs.
The South Africa Under-20 international becomes the fourth player to move from Naturena to the Cape Winelands during the current transfer window, following in the footsteps of George Matlou, Given Msimango, and Ashley Du Preez ahead of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season.

- Background: The Johannesburg-born centre-back took a unique route to top-flight football, having qualified as a referee in 2021 and winning the Referee of the Tournament award at the 2022 Engen Knockout Challenge at age 16 before switching back to playing.
- Akademy Success: Progressed through the Kaizer Chiefs youth setup, starring in the DStv Diski Challenge and leading the Under-18 side to an Engen Knockout Challenge title, where he was named Defender of the Tournament.
- International Honors: Key member of the South Africa Under-20 (Amajita) squad that won both the COSAFA Under-20 Championship and the CAF Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
