Bafana Bafana striker Lyle Foster is reportedly set to join Houston Dynamo on loan from Burnley, with a $7 million option to make the move permanent.

Lyle Foster appears set for a new chapter in his career, with the Bafana Bafana striker reportedly closing in on a move from Burnley to Major League Soccer.

The 25-year-old is expected to join Houston Dynamo on loan, in a move that could give him the regular playing time he needs after a difficult spell at Turf Moor.

According to The Athletic, the proposed deal would run until next season and include a $7 million option for Houston Dynamo to make the transfer permanent.

Foster has reportedly already completed his medical, with the move now awaiting completion.

HOUSTON DYNAMO MOVE COULD OFFER FOSTER A FRESH START

Foster joined Burnley in 2023 and experienced Premier League football with the club before Burnley’s relegation to the Championship last season.

However, his time at Turf Moor has been mixed.

Across 99 appearances for Burnley in all competitions, Foster has contributed 12 goals and 12 assists. His goal return dipped last season as Burnley struggled, limiting his impact in front of goal.

A move to MLS could now provide the South African striker with an opportunity to rebuild his confidence and rediscover the form that made him an important part of the Bafana setup.

FOSTER COULD LINK UP WITH MBOКAZI

The potential move would also see Foster remain in the United States alongside fellow South African international Mbekezeli Mbokazi.

For Foster, the priority will be playing consistently.

At 25, the striker still has plenty of time to re-establish himself at club and international level. Regular football could be particularly important with Pitso Mosimane now leading Bafana Bafana.

BAFANA PLACE COULD BE AT STAKE

Foster featured just once for South Africa at the 2026 FIFA World Cup as Bafana reached the last 32.

With Mosimane beginning a new era in charge, competition for places in the national team is likely to be intense.

A productive spell in MLS could therefore have significance beyond Foster’s club career. Goals and consistent performances for Houston Dynamo could help him force his way back into Mosimane’s preferred starting XI.

The reported $7 million purchase option also gives Foster an opportunity to turn the loan into a permanent move if he can make a strong impression.

A CHANCE TO RESET

The MLS switch represents more than simply a change of clubs for Foster.

After struggling for consistency at Burnley, the South African now has the chance to reset, play regularly and rebuild his reputation.

If he can rediscover his scoring touch in Houston, Foster could quickly become an important figure for both his new club and the Bafana Bafana setup.
