AmaZulu striker Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya has been rewarded for a sensational month in front of goal after being named the Betway Premiership Player of the Month for August.
The Zimbabwean forward was one of the standout performers in the South African top flight, producing an impressive return of five goals and one assist in four appearances during the month.
For a 25-year-old still establishing himself as one of the league’s leading attacking threats, the award represents another significant milestone in what has been a rapid rise.
Ngwenya lights up the Betway Premiership
Ngwenya’s August form was built around one key quality: clinical finishing.
While creating chances is important, converting them consistently is what separates dangerous forwards from genuine match-winners.
The AmaZulu striker delivered exactly that.
Across four matches, he found the net five times and also registered an assist, playing a major role in AmaZulu’s attacking performances.

From FC Platinum to AmaZulu
Ngwenya’s success in South Africa did not come out of nowhere.
The striker developed his football in Zimbabwe with FC Platinum, where his physical presence, movement and finishing ability helped establish him as one of the country’s promising attacking talents.
During his final spell with the Zvishavane-based club, he scored nine league goals, underlining his ability to consistently contribute in front of goal.
He also signed off his FC Platinum career by scoring against Simba Bhora before making the move to Durban.
That transition to the Betway Premiership provided Ngwenya with an opportunity to test himself against a higher level of competition.
International recognition followed
Ngwenya’s performances at club level eventually opened the door to international football.
He made his senior debut for Zimbabwe at the age of 22, featuring in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda.
His profile grew further during the 2025 COSAFA Cup in South Africa, where he scored twice.
Those performances earned him a place in the tournament’s Team of the First Round and helped attract the attention of AmaZulu.
The Durban club subsequently secured his services in July 2025, with Ngwenya signing a two-year contract.
Just over a year later, he has now added a major individual award to his growing list of achievements.

Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou was named Coach of the Month after guiding the Buccaneers to three victories and one draw from their four matches.
Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns striker Brayan León claimed the Goal of the Month award for his spectacular volley against Chippa United.
The three awards underline the quality of individual performances produced during August.
For AmaZulu, however, the biggest headline belongs to Ngwenya.
The Zimbabwean has announced himself in style, and his Player of the Month award could be the start of something much bigger.
Can Ngwenya maintain his incredible scoring form?
The challenge now is consistency.
