Mamelodi Sundowns have parted ways with Kobamelo Kodisang, bringing an end to the 27-year-old attacker’s time at the club after a spell in which regular first-team football proved difficult to secure.
The two parties reportedly reached an agreement to terminate Kodisang’s contract before the PSL transfer window closed on Monday.
The decision means the former highly rated attacker is now a free agent and can look for his next club.
Kodisang’s Sundowns spell never took off
Kodisang joined Sundowns in 2024 after attracting significant attention during his time abroad.
The attacker had previously been linked with several clubs in Europe and was also reportedly a target for Kaizer Chiefs before Sundowns secured his signature.
However, opportunities at Chloorkop proved limited.
During his first season with the Brazilians, Kodisang made 13 appearances, scoring twice and providing two assists.
Rather than becoming a regular fixture in the Sundowns attack, he was subsequently sent out on loan.
Two loan moves followed
Kodisang spent the first part of last season at Stellenbosch FC, where he made five appearances.
He then returned to Portugal to join AVS Futebol SAD for the second half of the campaign.
His opportunities remained limited, with the attacker making another five appearances across all competitions and scoring once.
After returning to Sundowns, Kodisang was reportedly no longer part of the club’s plans.
With the transfer deadline approaching, the player pushed for an agreement that would allow him to leave as a free agent.
Why Kodisang wanted his contract terminated
The timing of the agreement was important for the 27-year-old.
By terminating his Sundowns contract before the window closed, Kodisang became a free agent and can now pursue his next move without waiting for the January transfer window.
Had he remained contracted to Sundowns without being registered for the new campaign, his options for joining another club would have been considerably more restricted.
The decision therefore gives the attacker an opportunity to find a fresh start immediately.
