When do Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates meet again after the 2026 MTN8 final? Here are their next scheduled PSL fixtures.

Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates will meet in the MTN8 final on 10 October, but supporters will have to wait several months before the two PSL heavyweights face each other again in league action.

The highly anticipated cup final gives both clubs an early opportunity to claim silverware and establish bragging rights, but their next Premiership meetings could carry even greater significance as the 2026/27 season develops.

Sundowns and Pirates’ next PSL meetings

According to the current PSL fixture schedule, Sundowns and Pirates are due to meet twice in the league after their MTN8 showdown.

Their first Premiership encounter is scheduled for 9 January 2027 at Loftus Versfeld Stadium, giving both teams a chance to reassess their respective title campaigns after the festive break.

The second league meeting is set for 24 April 2027 at Orlando Stadium.

That April fixture falls in matchweek 26, potentially putting it in a crucial position in the race for the Premiership title.

For now, however, the MTN8 final will be their only competitive meeting for the remainder of 2026.

MTN8 final comes first

Before the league rivalry resumes, Sundowns and Pirates will settle the MTN8 at the start of October.

The final is scheduled for 10 October, with Pirates chasing a fifth consecutive trophy.

The Buccaneers have enjoyed considerable success in recent seasons, while Sundowns will be looking to add another piece of silverware to their already decorated record.

Beyond the trophy itself, the final gives one of South Africa’s biggest football rivalries an opportunity to gain an early psychological advantage.

A victory would mean more than just lifting the MTN8 trophy, with the winning side also taking bragging rights into the months ahead.

Could the January meeting shape the title race?

The three-month gap between the MTN8 final and the next league meeting means the landscape could look very different by January.

Both clubs have demanding domestic and continental schedules, and their form, squad availability and league positions could change significantly before they meet at Loftus Versfeld.

That makes the January fixture one to watch closely.

If the title race remains tight, the first Premiership meeting of 2027 could have a major bearing on the standings. The April encounter at Orlando Stadium could then become even more significant if the championship is still undecided.

Sundowns and Pirates therefore have several important chapters still to write this season, beginning with the MTN8 final in October.

What comes next for Pirates?

Before the MTN8 final, Pirates have domestic and continental commitments to navigate.

The Buccaneers are scheduled to face Durban City on 17 September at Orlando Stadium, with kick-off at 19:30.

They are also preparing for the next round of the CAF Champions League after progressing from the first preliminary round.

Pirates will face Namibian champions African Stars in the second preliminary round, with the first leg scheduled to take place in Botswana after African Stars were unable to host the fixture at a CAF-approved stadium in Namibia.

The continental campaign adds another demanding component to Pirates’ schedule as they attempt to compete on multiple fronts.

Sundowns also face continental challenge

Sundowns, meanwhile, will begin their CAF Champions League title defence against Angolan club Wiliete Sport Clube de Benguela.

The reigning African champions will again have to balance domestic football with continental commitments as they pursue success across multiple competitions.

With both clubs competing for major honours, their meetings in October, January and April could provide some of the defining moments of the 2026/27 campaign.

For now, though, the immediate focus is on the MTN8 final.

The big question: who will lift the MTN8 trophy on 10 October — Mamelodi Sundowns or Orlando Pirates?
