Kaizer Chiefs have a crowded treatment room just as their form wobbles. Here is where the squad stands before the visit of Stellenbosch.
A rough few weeks for Maboe
Midfielder Lebohang Maboe was hurt in Chiefs’ 0-0 draw with Golden Arrows, a game in which he also missed a penalty. The injury kept him out of Bafana Bafana’s AFCON qualifying wins over Guinea and Eritrea, and there is no clear timeline for his return. After such a strong start to the season, the last few weeks have been a reality check for the 32-year-old.
Who is out against Stellenbosch
Chiefs will be without Maboe, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Langelihle Phili and Brandon Petersen. That hurts, because Stellenbosch have won the last three head-to-head meetings. Luke Baartman is on the mend but remains a doubt.
The club’s official update lists four major concerns:
- Brandon Petersen is back in individual training after a knee injury.
- Lebohang Maboe, who has played in all eight league games this season, is nursing an ankle injury.
- Langelihle Phili and Siphesihle Ndlovu remain long-term absentees.
The big question
With their midfield engine missing and Chiefs’ form patchy, can Amakhosi cope without Maboe?
