AmaZulu head coach Arthur Zwane has finally spoken out regarding swirling rumours linking him to a potential role in Pitso Mosimane’s prospective Bafana Bafana technical team.
Speaking on the sidelines of the 2026 Carling Knockout last 16 draw, “10111” made it clear that while national team interest is notable, his immediate heart and focus lie firmly with Usuthu.
Loyalty, Roots, and the Move to Usuthu
Reflecting on his career values, Zwane emphasized that loyalty is paramount. Having spent 24 years at Kaizer Chiefs—where he felt like “part of the furniture”—he revealed that even his move to AmaZulu required mutual respect and a blessing from Kaizer Motaung.
“When I got a call from the President (Sandile Zungu of AmaZulu), the first thing I said was, ‘President, I’m willing to join, but please contact the Chairman (Kaizer Motaung of Kaizer Chiefs), and if the Chairman agrees, I’m on board.'”
Zwane noted that President Zungu’s ambitious project and clear vision convinced him to take the plunge, despite a shaky start that eventually gave way to massive structural growth and team chemistry.
The Bafana Bafana Stance
While reports previously suggested AmaZulu had already drawn up contingency plans—monitoring Orlando Pirates assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi—Zwane’s own words suggest an exit is far from guaranteed.
- Enjoying the Journey: Praising the unmatched support from fans, board members, management, and CEO, Zwane admitted that leaving Usuthu is not a simple choice.
- Open Yet Grounded: While he hasn’t completely closed the door on international or national team opportunities, he stressed that building something meaningful in Durban takes precedence.
- Embracing the Challenge: Summarizing his current chapter, Zwane firmly stated: “This is a challenge I needed as a coach.”
For now, Usuthu supporters can rest easy: Zwane is fully invested in finishing what he started in Durban.
