Olwethu Makhanya, Mbekezeli Mbokazi and Relebohile Mofokeng are emerging Bafana Bafana stars attracting attention as potential future Premier League players.

South African football could soon have another wave of talent testing itself at the highest level in England.

Olwethu Makhanya, Mbekezeli Mbokazi and Relebohile Mofokeng are three of the Bafana Bafana players generating excitement as they continue their development abroad, with their performances reportedly attracting interest from clubs in the English Premier League.

While a move to England is far from guaranteed, the trio are following promising pathways that could eventually take them to one of the world’s most competitive leagues.

Olwethu Makhanya Leading the Way?

At 22, Olwethu Makhanya appears to be one of the closest to making the jump.

The Durban-born centre-back has made an impression in Scotland with Rangers, where his performances have reportedly attracted interest from Premier League clubs including Brentford and Sunderland.

His recent form has strengthened his reputation, with the defender earning recognition as the Scottish Premiership Player of the Month.

If Makhanya can maintain his consistency and continue developing at Rangers, a move to England could become a realistic next step in his career.

Mbekezeli Mbokazi Making His Mark in MLS

Mbekezeli Mbokazi has taken a different route.

The 21-year-old defender joined Chicago Fire FC in January and has quickly emerged as one of the promising young players in Major League Soccer.

His performances have reportedly placed him on the radar of Nottingham Forest, while his inclusion among the leading young players in the MLS Under-22 rankings further underlines his potential.

Mbokazi’s physical presence, composure and ability to contribute to the build-up make him an intriguing prospect for clubs looking for young defensive talent.

The challenge now is maintaining that level consistently enough to earn a move to an even more demanding European environment.

Relebohile Mofokeng Brings Creativity

Then there is Relebohile Mofokeng, whose route to the Premier League could be driven by his attacking qualities.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder joined Belgian champions Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in August after establishing himself as one of South Africa’s most exciting young talents.

Mofokeng has reportedly attracted interest from clubs including Brighton and Chelsea, as well as teams in France and Germany.

His technical ability, creativity and close control give him a different profile from Makhanya and Mbokazi.

His early numbers in Belgium — four goals and two assists in 12 appearances — suggest that he is already beginning to make an impact in European football.

Three Players, Three Different Routes

What makes the trio particularly interesting is that their journeys are unfolding through three different football environments.

Makhanya is developing in Scotland, Mbokazi is gaining experience in MLS and Mofokeng is making his mark in Belgium. Each pathway offers a different test, but all three could potentially serve as stepping stones towards a Premier League move.

There is still plenty of work ahead. Performing consistently, adapting to increasingly demanding competition and continuing their development will be crucial if they are to turn transfer speculation into reality.

For Bafana Bafana supporters, however, their progress represents a positive sign.

South Africa has produced Premier League players before, and another generation appears to be positioning itself for a potential breakthrough on the international stage.

So, if one of these three eventually makes the move to England, who gets there first — Makhanya, Mbokazi or Mofokeng?
