CAF has confirmed the dates and times for the 2026/27 CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup group-stage draws, with Orlando Pirates and Durban City set to discover their continental opponents.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that the group-stage draws for its two major interclub competitions will take place in Cairo, Egypt, on Wednesday, 28 October 2026.

The announcement comes shortly after the completion of the latest qualifying-round action, with clubs now turning their attention to the group stages and the road towards continental silverware.

Champions League Draw

The CAF Champions League group-stage draw is scheduled for 15:00 Cairo time (12:00 GMT).

South Africa’s remaining representative in the competition is Orlando Pirates, who secured their place in the group stages after overcoming Namibia’s African Stars.

The Buccaneers will now discover which clubs they will face in the next phase of the competition as they look to progress to the knockout rounds.

Pirates could potentially be drawn against some of the continent’s heavyweight clubs, including Pyramids FC, Zamalek, Espérance de Tunis and RS Berkane.

With Mamelodi Sundowns eliminated during the qualifying rounds, the pressure will be on Pirates to carry South African hopes in Africa’s premier club competition.

Confederation Cup Draw

The CAF Confederation Cup draw will take place earlier on the same day at 14:00 Cairo time (11:00 GMT).

South African interest includes Durban City, who booked their place in the group stages after defeating AS Port-Louis 2000 of Mauritius.

The draw will determine the group-stage opponents for the remaining clubs and provide a clearer picture of the road ahead in the race for continental honours.

Big Day for African Club Football

With both draws taking place in Cairo on Wednesday, football fans across the continent will be watching closely as the group-stage matchups are revealed.

For Orlando Pirates, attention will turn to whether they can secure a favourable group and build momentum towards the knockout stages.

Durban City, meanwhile, will be looking to make their mark in the Confederation Cup after successfully navigating the qualifying rounds.

The draw could provide an early indication of the challenges awaiting both South African clubs on the continental stage.

Who Will Pirates and Durban City Face?

The big question now is which opponents await South Africa’s representatives.

Will Orlando Pirates get a favourable Champions League draw? Can Durban City make a deep run in the Confederation Cup?
