K.O celebrates 20 years in South African hip-hop with friends, industry peers and Sony Music Africa while reflecting on his journey from Teargas to Skhanda World.

South African hip-hop heavyweight K.O is celebrating two decades in the music industry, choosing an intimate gathering with friends, industry peers and the Sony Music Africa team to mark the milestone.

The Skhanda World founder recently shared highlights from the celebration on Instagram, reflecting on a career that has spanned generations of South African hip-hop.

“Celebrating 20 of them things in the game! Broke bread with good people and friends. Love all,” K.O wrote, while thanking Sony Music Africa for hosting what he described as a memorable evening.

K.O reflects on two decades in the game

Rather than staging a huge public event, K.O opted for a more personal celebration centred around the people who have been part of his journey.

The gathering comes during a landmark year for the rapper, who has spent much of 2026 reflecting on his career and the evolution of his sound.

Earlier this year, K.O released “20 Summers”, a reflective track that looks back on his longevity, experiences and growth across two decades in the industry.

His journey began as part of the influential hip-hop group Teargas, before he established himself as a successful solo artist and one of the leading voices behind the Skhanda sound.

From Teargas to Skhanda World

K.O’s career has been defined by evolution.

From Teargas’ impact on South African hip-hop to his solo career and the development of Skhanda World, the rapper has consistently found ways to adapt while maintaining a recognisable musical identity.

His longevity is particularly significant in an industry where sounds and trends can change rapidly.

Over the years, K.O has remained relevant by embracing new generations of artists, experimenting with different sounds and continuing to build on the foundations of his earlier work.

A milestone shared with the people who matter

The Sony Music Africa gathering also highlighted another side of K.O’s 20-year journey: the relationships that have helped shape his career.

For the rapper, the celebration wasn’t simply about records, releases or commercial success. It was an opportunity to acknowledge the friends, collaborators and industry figures who have shared different chapters of his journey.

His continued relationship with Sony Music Africa has also formed part of his solo career, supporting various stages of his development as he expanded the Skhanda movement.

After 20 years in an ever-changing industry, K.O has plenty to celebrate.

And judging by the intimate nature of his latest gathering, the veteran rapper understands that longevity is about more than music — it’s also about the people who remain part of the journey.

Twenty years in hip-hop, countless chapters, and still plenty more to come.
