Goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze opens up about his loyalty to Magesi FC, rejecting Betway Premiership transfers to fight for promotion in the NFD.

In an era where player loyalty in football is increasingly rare, Zimbabwe international goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze has chosen to take the road less traveled. Following Magesi FC’s heartbreaking relegation from South Africa’s Betway Premiership to the National First Division (NFD), the veteran shot-stopper has decided to reject easy top-flight exit routes.

Instead of using his high-profile status to secure a transfer to another first-tier team, the 40-year-old goalkeeper has officially committed his future to the Limpopo-based outfit as they look to fight their way back to the summit of South African football.

Unfinished Business and a Four-Year Bond

Chipezeze’s decision to stay at Magesi FC wasn’t just about football; it was highly personal. Having spent four seasons at the club, he has forged a deep connection with the team and its supporters.

Speaking about his decision, Chipezeze explained:

“Well, it was just me, as I wanted to continue building memories with this football club because we have been together for about four seasons. I was happy with the project, and I felt that, personally, things didn’t go well in the Betway Premiership.”

Rather than walking away during a difficult period, he views their return to the second tier as a fresh and motivating challenge. He believes helping Magesi win promotion back to the top-flight would be one of the most rewarding milestones of his career.

Inspired by Solly Makhubela’s Vision

Another massive factor behind Chipezeze’s stay is the club’s leadership. The veteran goalkeeper credited Magesi Chairman Solly Makhubela‘s long-term master plan for the club as a major influence on his career choice.

“You know, the chairman had a vision, and for the vision to be out there, you need to be part of that. So, it was a decision from me that I think I need to go for another year.”

Newly appointed head coach Kabelo Sibiya has confirmed that Chipezeze remains a cornerstone of the club’s blueprint for the upcoming Motsepe Foundation Championship campaign.
