Kaizer Chiefs have officially triggered their option to sign Khanyisa Mayo on a permanent long-term deal from Algerian titans CR Belouizdad.

The 27-year-old forward spent the 2025/26 campaign on loan at Naturena, fulfilling a lifelong dream of continuing the legacy established by his father, former Amakhosi star Patrick Mayo. Despite an injury-interrupted initial spell—limited to 15 appearances and two goals—head coach Fernando Da Cruz and the Chiefs hierarchy have backed the versatile attacker for their domestic and CAF campaigns.

Mayo becomes Amakhosi’s fourth major arrival of the current transfer window, following defender Thabo Moloisane, goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner, and Tanzanian international anchor Adolf Mtasingwa Bitegeko.

A Proven Domestic Goalscorer

Born in Umtata and raised in Gqeberha, Mayo’s path to Naturena began in the SuperSport United academy before establishing his reputation across the domestic landscape:

  • Cape Town City Success: Scored 28 goals in 88 PSL appearances, finishing as the joint-top scorer in the 2022/23 Premiership campaign with 12 goals.
  • North African Venture: Earned a three-year deal with Algerian giants CR Belouizdad in August 2024 before returning home to South Africa.
  • International Experience: Represented South Africa at U17, U20, and senior Bafana Bafana levels.

With his permanent contract finalized for an undisclosed fee, Mayo adds fire-power, flair, and proven PSL pedigree as the Glamour Boys aim for silverware on all fronts.
