Anele Mdoda has revealed that her Johannesburg home went without running water for seven days, highlighting the ongoing water challenges facing residents.

Radio and television personality Anele Mdoda Mgudlwa has shared her frustration after her residential estate reportedly went without running water for an entire week.

The media personality took to social media to highlight the difficult situation, explaining that residents had been dealing with a series of infrastructure problems that left them without reliable water — and, at one point, affected other services as well.

Anele Mdoda Gives Update on Water Crisis

Anele described the situation as increasingly frustrating, saying construction equipment being used during repair work had become stuck and subsequently damaged power and fibre infrastructure.

The presenter joked that the estate had been taken back to another era, adding that residents needed help.

During her breakfast show on 947, Anele also revealed just how disruptive the outage had become for her household. With no running water available, her family was reportedly using swimming-pool water to flush the toilets.

Her experience sparked reactions from followers and other celebrities, many of whom said they were dealing with similar challenges.

Actor Moshe Ndiki joked about using gym facilities to shower, while singer Shekhinah also indicated that she was experiencing a similar problem.

Johannesburg Water Problems Continue

Anele’s experience comes amid ongoing water challenges affecting parts of Johannesburg.

Residents in several areas have faced prolonged interruptions caused by infrastructure failures, leaks, maintenance issues and pressure on the city’s water network.

The broader crisis has also raised concerns about ageing infrastructure and water losses. Reports have suggested that a significant amount of Johannesburg’s treated water is lost through leaks and other inefficiencies before reaching consumers.

The situation has increased pressure on authorities to improve infrastructure, respond more quickly to outages and ensure residents have access to a reliable water supply.

For residents experiencing prolonged outages, Anele’s experience highlights how quickly a water interruption can disrupt everyday life — from basic hygiene to household sanitation.
