Relebohile Mofokeng is wasting no time making his mark in European football.
The South African youngster scored on his first league start for Royale Union Saint-Gilloise as the Belgian side cruised to a 3-0 victory over Sint-Truidense V.V. on Wednesday.
After making the move to Belgium following his impressive spell with Orlando Pirates, Mofokeng was handed his first league start and responded with another composed attacking display.
MOFOKENG MAKES HIS CHANCE COUNT
Union SG took control of the match early, with Louis Patris opening the scoring in the 23rd minute.
Kevin Mac Allister then doubled the advantage shortly after half-time, leaving Sint-Truiden with a difficult task to get back into the contest.
Mofokeng delivered the final blow in the 63rd minute.
The 21-year-old calmly found the back of the net to make it 3-0, effectively putting the result beyond doubt.
It was another confident finish from the young playmaker and a strong response to being handed his first league start.
The goal was also Mofokeng’s second league goal of the campaign. He had previously scored on his league debut as a substitute against Westerlo in August.
FAST START TO LIFE IN BELGIUM
Mofokeng’s adaptation to Belgian football has been impressive.
Before Wednesday’s performance, he had already made his presence felt by scoring the decisive penalty in the Belgian Super Cup.
His latest goal suggests the former Orlando Pirates star is beginning to settle into his new surroundings and could now push for a more prominent role at Union SG.
The young attacker was also rewarded for his display against Sint-Truiden with Man of the Match honours.
UNION SG MOVE INTO SECOND
The victory was significant for Union SG as well as Mofokeng.
The Belgian club climbed into second place in the Jupiler Pro League, strengthening their position near the top of the early-season standings.
For Mofokeng, meanwhile, the performance represents another important milestone in his European journey.
The Sharpeville-born attacker joined Union SG in July 2026 after developing through the Orlando Pirates academy.
He made his senior debut for Pirates in 2023 and went on to score 18 goals in 81 league appearances, while helping the club win two MTN8 titles and the Nedbank Cup.
A PLAYER TO WATCH FOR BAFANA
Mofokeng’s rise has also extended to the international stage.
The attacker became an important part of the Bafana Bafana setup and featured at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
With his European adventure now gathering momentum, his performances for Union SG could become increasingly important for South Africa too.
Scoring on his first league start is another indication that Mofokeng is ready to embrace the challenge of playing abroad.
