Kaizer Chiefs have six players currently sidelined, with Lebohang Maboe the latest injury casualty. Get the latest Amakhosi injury update.

Kaizer Chiefs’ injury list has grown to six players, with midfielder Lebohang Maboe becoming the latest player to suffer a setback.

Maboe’s injury has ruled him out of the current Bafana Bafana camp and added another concern for coach Fernando Da Cruz as Chiefs look to maintain their push for silverware.

Maboe latest to join Chiefs injury list

Maboe has been one of Chiefs’ important performers since joining the club and his form recently earned him a place in the latest Bafana Bafana squad.

However, his international involvement was cut short after he suffered an ankle injury while playing for Amakhosi.

Bafana Bafana team doctor Dr Tshepo Molobi confirmed that Maboe underwent a scan after arriving in camp and would miss the remainder of the FIFA international window.

“He twisted his ankle while playing for Kaizer Chiefs,” Molobi explained, adding that the midfielder was subsequently ruled out of the current camp.

The extent of Maboe’s recovery timeline has not been confirmed, leaving Chiefs supporters waiting for further information.

Six Chiefs players currently injured

Maboe joins five other players who are currently unavailable through injury:

  • Lebohang Maboe – ankle injury
  • Wandile Duba
  • Paseka Mako
  • Nkhanyisa Shinga
  • Khanyisa Mayo
  • Langelihle Phili

The growing injury list presents another challenge for Da Cruz, particularly with Chiefs having already played a demanding opening stretch of the campaign.

Chiefs still making progress under Da Cruz

Despite the injury problems, Chiefs have made a solid start to the season.

Amakhosi currently sit fourth in the Betway Premiership, having recorded three wins and four draws.

Da Cruz has suffered just one defeat in his first eight matches across all competitions, giving the club a positive platform despite the growing number of unavailable players.

The international break could therefore prove useful for the Chiefs medical team, with the coaching staff hoping to have several players back when domestic football resumes.

Cross provides some positive news

There was at least one boost for Chiefs in their recent meeting with Golden Arrows, with Bradley Cross available for selection after previously missing matches this season.

His return gives Da Cruz another option as he manages the squad during a busy period.

The next few weeks will be important for Chiefs’ injury management, particularly as the club continues its pursuit of domestic success.

Will Kaizer Chiefs feel the absence of Lebohang Maboe when the league campaign resumes? Have your say.
