Kaizer Chiefs will host Red Arrows at Moses Mabhida Stadium in the CAF Confederation Cup second-leg clash after beginning the tie in Zambia.

Kaizer Chiefs will take their CAF Confederation Cup campaign to Durban, with Moses Mabhida Stadium set to host the second leg of their preliminary-round tie against Zambian side Red Arrows.

The decision means Amakhosi will once again move away from their traditional FNB Stadium home for a crucial continental fixture.

Chiefs are chasing a place in the group stage for a second consecutive season and must first overcome Red Arrows across two legs.

Chiefs begin CAF tie in Zambia

The first meeting between the two sides will take place at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Zambia on Saturday, 17 October.

Kick-off is scheduled for 15:00 South African time.

The return fixture will then take place at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday, 23 October, giving Chiefs home advantage in the decisive leg.

Red Arrows earned their place in the second preliminary round after an emphatic 4-0 aggregate victory over Madagascar’s FC Rouge.

They won both legs 2-0, setting up a difficult assignment for Chiefs.

Chiefs chasing another group-stage appearance

Amakhosi entered the competition at the second preliminary-round stage after receiving a bye as one of the seeded teams.

That puts additional importance on the two-legged tie, with the winner advancing to the CAF Confederation Cup group stage.

Chiefs will be determined to progress after making their presence felt in continental competition last season.

For coach Abdeslam Ouaddou and his squad, the objective is clear: negotiate the trip to Zambia before finishing the job in Durban.

Why are Chiefs playing in Durban?

Moses Mabhida has become a familiar alternative venue for major South African football fixtures, and Chiefs have opted to stage this continental home match there rather than at FNB Stadium.

The choice continues a trend that saw Amakhosi use FNB Stadium sparingly for CAF Confederation Cup fixtures last season.

They played at the iconic Johannesburg venue just once in that campaign, against Kabuscorp on 27 September.

The move to Durban could also provide Chiefs with a different atmosphere for a match that could determine whether their continental journey continues.

Can Chiefs make home advantage count?

With the second leg taking place at Moses Mabhida, Chiefs will know exactly what is at stake when they return to South Africa.

The priority will be to emerge from Zambia with a result that puts them in a strong position before the decisive home fixture.

Do Kaizer Chiefs perform better away from FNB Stadium, and can they eliminate Red Arrows?
