Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Thabo Cele has spoken about the tough circumstances around his exit from Kaizer Chiefs and says winning the MTN8 in his first season at his new club has made the move worthwhile.
Left Behind at Chiefs
The 29-year-old was reportedly left behind when Chiefs travelled abroad for their pre-season camp, because the two clubs were still negotiating compensation and his transfer was delayed. Cele said he did not let the uncertainty throw him off course. His approach, he explained, was to keep working hard, focus on himself and shut out outside distractions.
Driven to Improve
Cele said his path has always been about self-improvement. Since childhood he has wanted to work his way into a position like this, and being at Sundowns is both a big moment and extra motivation to reach the next level.
A First Trophy With Sundowns
Cele has now won his first trophy with the club. Sundowns beat Orlando Pirates in Saturday’s MTN8 final at Moses Mabhida Stadium, their second trophy of the season. He thanked God for the opportunity and called it a blessing to be part of a team that is always looking for more. Sundowns went into the final intending to win it, he said, because it had been a while since they last lifted the MTN8.
