TS Galaxy right-back Lentswe Motaung is expected to miss tonight’s Betway Premiership match against Orlando Pirates after a reported hijacking in Gauteng. Galaxy have not yet commented.
What happened
According to reports, the 21-year-old was hijacked and assaulted in Phola Park, Thokoza, in the early hours of Saturday morning. He was injured and taken to hospital, where he is reportedly receiving treatment.
Vehicle Trackers, which shared the report on social media, said the hijacked vehicle is still missing. It had not yet been registered and was operating on a permit at the time. The organisation is asking anyone with information about the vehicle or the suspects to come forward through its hotline, 071 132 3563, or its inbox.
Impact on Galaxy
Motaung started Galaxy’s previous game, a 1-0 loss to Chippa United, and has started all seven of their league matches this season. He was Man of the Match against Sekhukhune United on 5 September. Galaxy kick off at the Orlando Amstel Arena at 19:30 and are expected to be without him.
Who is Lentswe Motaung?
The right-back was promoted to the senior team in 2024 under former coach Adnan Beganovic and has kept his place under current coach Bernard Parker. Last season he made 27 appearances, 22 of them in the Betway Premiership, along with games in the MTN8, Carling Knockout and Nedbank Cup.
