Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Happy Mashiane could be set for a fresh start at Siwelele FC as he looks to revive his professional football career.
The 28-year-old left-back has been searching for a new club since parting ways with Amakhosi in June 2026, bringing an end to a 12-year association with the Soweto giants.
Siwelele FC Working Towards Mashiane Signing
Mashiane appears to be edging closer to a potential return to Siwelele FC after spending time training with the Bloemfontein-based side.
The defender reportedly began training with the club during the September FIFA international break. Siwelele head coach Godfrey Mosoetsa has confirmed that the club is working through the remaining administrative matters before making a final decision on the player.
Speaking to journalists at the Carling Knockout Cup Last 16 launch, Mosoetsa praised Mashiane’s performances in training and highlighted the experience he could bring to the team.
The coach indicated that Mashiane had been training well and that a few administrative details still needed to be resolved before the club could proceed.
Mosoetsa also pointed to the defender’s experience in the Premier Soccer League and his early years playing for Kaizer Chiefs as reasons he could still contribute at the highest domestic level.
Although the move appears to be progressing, the signing should not be considered final until the club confirms that the outstanding matters have been resolved.
From Kaizer Chiefs Prospect to Searching for a New Club
Born in Tembisa, Mashiane began his football journey with Tembisa Black Pirates before developing his skills at the Mamelodi Sundowns Academy and Future Through Football Academy.
His career took a significant step forward in 2015 when he joined Kaizer Chiefs. He progressed through the club’s development structures and featured in the DStv Diski Challenge before earning promotion to the senior team in January 2019, at just 19 years old.
During his time with Amakhosi, Mashiane gained valuable first-team experience and featured during a challenging period for the club. One of the most notable moments of his career came in the CAF Champions League final against Al Ahly, where he received a red card.
Despite the highs and difficult moments, his long spell at Naturena gave him considerable experience in South African football.
Could Siwelele FC Be the Fresh Start He Needs?
Mashiane previously spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Siwelele FC. A return could offer him an opportunity to regain consistency, compete for regular playing time and make the most of his PSL experience.
For Siwelele, bringing in an experienced left-back could add depth and competition to the squad. For Mashiane, the potential move represents an opportunity to rebuild momentum after leaving Kaizer Chiefs.
However, the final outcome will depend on the completion of the outstanding administrative requirements and confirmation from the club.
